When The Rain Came Down

At first, it was kind of fun.

After a week, they canceled school. All the kids floated around the streets on pool loungers.

Two weeks in, only the houses on the hills were above-water. They tried to close off the neighborhood, but everyone stormed the gates.

On the thirty-second day, a guy killed a little girl and stole her floatie. We saw him drifting around, the pink dinosaur head between his legs and a shotgun in his hand.

When we woke up on day thirty-nine, it’d stopped raining. We all cheered. Some people cried.

But then it started again.
