Unconventional chivalry

Mathilda squealed with glee when she opened the door and saw the rugged blonde knight.

“Mummy, mummy, the knight has finally come, and he’s gorgeous.”

Dirk looked at his scroll, then back at Mathilda. “Have you got a sister then?” he said, trying to look around her.

“It is I that you seek!” Around her squatty little finger was the ruby-encrusted Ring of Arcadia.

Whoever drew up his scroll depicted Mathilda as a dainty nymph, but he knew only one could wear the Ring.

Dirk glanced at his weary steed. “You wouldn’t mind walking alongside the horse, would you?”
