The Terminal Velocity of a Cat

“Commander,” Private Donaldson piped up, “Tell us again why we’re throwing these cats out of a plane?”

Commander Ellison pursed his lips.

“That information,” Ellison grumbled, “is classified.”

He turned to the wire cage at his feet and knelt to meet eyes with a half dozen mewling cats. The cage vibrated under the purr of the felines and the hum of the engine.

“Alright men,” barked the Commander, “Let’s get those tiny oxygen tanks on these kittens.” Quietly, he whispered into the cage, “I know you can’t understand me… but you’re the bravest damn soldiers I ever laid eyes on.”
