The Tenth Penny

The guy used change. Six quarters, a dozen nickels. Ten pennies. There was a line. Everyone wanted lattes. James took the time to count the change. Do his best. The last penny was one of those other pennies. It was German. It had German writing. Fake like plastic. James tossed the rest of the change on the floor in a rage, jumped over the counter and saw the guy walking out.

“Hey!” James screamed.

The guy ran out the coffee shop.

“This is fake! You’re not honest!”

James stood, holding the German penny in the air for entirely too long.
