The sky was pink, full of golden rockets quietly breezing overhead. The ground on which we rolled around was bluish purple plasma. People were watching us but we deflected their gazes. They weren’t where we were – not even close. We revealed our love to each other like a well-kept secret, surprised to hear it now, though we’d said it before. She cried diamonds. They rolled down her cheek, and when I reached out to grab one, to hold onto it, to keep it and always remember this day, it dripped through my fingers and melted into my orange blue jeans.
