Moving day was the second worse day of the year, but at least she felt like she had gotten the packing part down. After three years of spotty employment, grad school rejection letters, and the burden of having dumped Trevor just minutes before he drove into a ditch, Kelly needed something to feel competent about.

She told him not to, but Jarrod insisted on lending a hand. He even helped unpack.

“Where’s this?” he said, holding a picture frame up for Kelly to see.

Kelly hesitated. “Ocean City,” she said. “I used to go there with someone.”
