The Ocean in the Amphitheatre

Dylan was onstage when Carrie started giggling. She had always been a natural space cadet, so I didn’t think anything of it at first. But half-way into the set, she was laughing so loudly that Dylan must have been deaf not to hear. I’d seen her take a pill before we went in. Advil, she’d said. I had no reason not to believer her until the encore, Blonde on Blonde, when the stage was lit like it was underwater, and Carrie made a break for it.

I didn’t say anything the next morning. It was out of her system by then.
