The ground was broken, with thick vegetation everywhere, and he hid wherever he found cover. When it seemed safe, he ran. There were sirens, far off, and lights circling in the sky. He could hear alien voices, strange, muted, unintelligible. At times, they were uncomfortably close.
Without the collar, they wouldn’t be able to home in. He didn’t know what he would eat or where he would safely sleep, but as long as he stayed out of the focus of those searchlights… he might eventually hook up with other feral humans. Unless they were a myth, and he was alone.
