hangover at 4 pm

It took Alex two full minutes after saying, “Coming,” to walk across his twelve-foot dorm room and answer the door.

“Hey,” he said. His hair smelled like cigarettes and his breath smelled like garbage.

“Hey,” Krista said, “Soup kitchen?”

Alex rubbed his red eyes with the back of his hand. “I gotta change first.” Krista waited in the hallway. She heard a lighter click a couple of times and then Alex was coughing. She knew what he was doing. She just needed to stay persistent with this one. He opened the door in the same clothes.
