Hand to the Fire

“You look so familiar,” said the hand to the fire, “Do I know you from somewhere?”

“Yes,” the fire said, “I think we had a class together in college.”

“American History?” the hand asked.

“Probably,” said the fire, “I think that was it.”

“Wow,” the hand stretched wide, “I barely recognize you. You look great.”

“Thanks. I’ve been in rehab, actually,” the fire flickered softly in the wind.

“We should get together,” said the hand with a smile.

“I’d like that,” said the fire, also smiling. They looked at each other for a moment, wondering what the other was thinking.

I love anthropomorphism. In fact, the two of us had lunch together the other day. I read anthropomorphism this story and she thought it was great.
