Marion would say something to the people standing around the fountain, and Rasheed would say the last bits of Marion’s sentences in unison, or even a split-second later. And when they did their scooter tricks, jumping off the ramp and over the volunteers, or speeding around in spiraling circles with no hands, it was always Marion that led the way. So why was I so shocked when I opened the paper and saw that Rasheed suffered cardiac arrest a split-second after Marion ran his scooter into a lamppost? Like he had his own life. Like he had his own fate.
