Definitely Not Vanilla

It was the first time young James, who was black, ever dated a girl like Diane who was white.

“So,” James said over dinner.  ”Why can’t your people come up with a flavorful name?”

“Really?” Diane said.  ”I thought it was 2010.  We don’t have flying cars. I guess racist shit can stick around too.”

“It isn’t racism.  White is Boring.”

“How about Cream?”

“Nah,” James said.  ”Vanilla?”

“No,” Diane said.  ”I’m not a flavor.”

“We can work on that, baby,” James said.

“Your chances of getting laid just dropped down to zero,” Diane said.  ”Hope you’re proud of yourself.”
