The chocolate side was her favorite, by far. Most times, she ate her way through the whole box until nothing remained but sad vanilla half-moons. So what? FedEx would bring her another box on Tuesday. Maybe she should’ve stayed close to home, gone to school up North like her parents wanted. But at least they couldn’t see her, covered in crumbs, her stomach overflowing jeans she could not longer button. If they did? Goodbye weekly deliveries. Goodbye memories of the bakery down the street. She grabbed another cookie, closed her eyes, and settled back to think about the FedEx man.
